What is Compersion?
Compersion is the wholehearted participation in the happiness of others. If your friend gets wonderful news and you think, “Good for them”, that’s compersion.
The term was coined by the polyamorous community in the 1970s, but doesn’t strictly refer to relationships, dating, or sex. This is a true emotional response which is the opposite of jealousy, envy, and even FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). The term just refers to any time you feel a happiness related to someone else having their own happy experience.
